Update: SOLD OUT - 86 swimmers The 1500m freestyle may be the ultimate test of endurance, but the 800m is not far behind — demanding stamina, smart pacing, and serious mental resilience. This Sunday, Bluefins will open Club Champs in style: 86 swimmers across all age groups are set to take on the challenge, making it one of the largest distance events anywhere in the region. 🏊‍♂️🐬

For some, it will be their first ever distance race. For others, it’s a chance to push endurance, sharpen race skills, and chase new personal bests. As Club Chair Fleur admitted: “I’ll be honest — I hate distance events myself! But watching our young swimmers tackle the 800 is inspiring. The determination they show makes me so proud to be part of Bluefins.”

And it takes a whole team to make it happen. Swimmers are primed and ready. Coaches will be on deck with their stopwatches. Our upgraded tech desk and extended results team will keep data flowing smoothly. Officials will be poised with watches, lap cards, and sharp eyes. Team managers and meet makers will keep swimmers moving… and behind the scenes, 🙌 Amazing Ali pulled the strings with heat sheets and meet set-up. From poolside precision to backroom organisation, this is teamwork at its finest.

For many swimmers, the 800m is more than a test of stamina — it’s an early County qualifier opportunity. Laying down a marker in September gives them a head start in the quest for next year’s Hampshire Championships.

Staging an event of this scale is no small feat. Distance races require extra pool time, more officials, and a bigger volunteer crew than most meets ever need. Finding the pool space, fitting the schedule, and mobilising so many people is a challenge in itself. But these are the challenges Bluefins thrive on — because they showcase the very heart of the club: ambition, teamwork, and a willingness to go further than anyone else.

And the numbers speak for themselves. With 86 entries, no other Hampshire club comes close. Across the wider region, only Guildford and Wycombe can rival this scale. It’s proof of the culture we’re building — one that values effort, resilience, and the courage to go the distance.

💙 Once again, Bluefins prove that when it comes to endurance, we’re not just taking part. We’re setting the pace. 🐬🔥
