The Bluefins Water Polo Pathway
Our pathway introduces players from beginner level through to competitive league play.
Every stage builds on the one before it — helping swimmers develop fitness, teamwork, and game awareness at the right pace for their age and ability.
Bluefins runs three key stages of development, supported by partnerships with regional clubs and networks across the South East.
Academy Squad (Ages 9–13)
Where It All Begins
The Bluefins Water Polo Academy is the perfect introduction to the sport. Sessions focus on movement, passing, and teamwork, using fun skill-based games to teach the basics of play.
Sessions take place weekly at Basingstoke Aquadrome, combining technique and small-sided match play to develop confidence and control.
Many of our young players join from Skills Academy Squad 4, Competitive Development, or Club 1 and 2 — adding Polo alongside their swim training to build balance, awareness, and all-round water skills.
💡 Swim England introduces mini-polo at Learn to Swim Stages 8–10. Bluefins builds directly on this foundation through safe, structured Academy sessions that spark interest and develop future talent.

Junior Squad (Ages 12–18)
Competitive Development
Our Junior Squad bridges the gap between friendly games and full league competition. It’s a great step for Age Group Competitive swimmers who want to combine endurance and skill with teamwork and tactics.

Senior Training — Men & Women
Bluefins offers weekly training sessions for senior players — open to both men and women who want to stay active, improve technique, and be part of a supportive team environment.
Sessions focus on tactical drills, conditioning, and match play, with opportunities to take part in local and regional competitions.
We also maintain a strong link with Southampton’s British League teams — the Southampton Sirens (BWPL) and Southampton Men — giving committed players a clear pathway into higher-level Water Polo while continuing to train locally in Basingstoke.

From Academy to Senior level, every stage of our programme connects — helping players grow through the sport while complementing their swim training.
Bluefins is proud to be part of the Hampshire Water Polo Network (HWPN), sharing coaching expertise, hosting joint match days, and working with leading clubs across the South East.
