Basingstoke Bluefins Club Fitness Squads

From Lessons to Club Fitness.

Building Confidence, Technique and Long-Term Wellbeing

At Bluefins, not every swimmer follows a competitive pathway. Many want to stay active, improve their fitness and continue developing their skills in the water. The Club Fitness Pathway provides a structured, coached environment for this.

Over 60 swimmers train regularly across Club Fitness 1 and Club Fitness 2. It offers consistency, confidence and a strong sense of belonging within a club setting.

For many swimmers, this is the natural next step after lessons — moving into a more structured, coached environment while keeping swimming enjoyable and sustainable.

Where It Fits

Lessons build a strong foundation but do not always provide the structure or progression needed as swimmers get older. Mixed age groups and wide ability ranges can limit consistency and appropriate challenge.

Club sessions introduce clear structure, regular coaching and more consistent groupings. This helps swimmers settle into a routine, build confidence and continue improving.

Our Approach

Sessions are coached and purposeful, focused on how swimmers move, improve and develop good technical habits in the water.

We prioritise:

    •    Technique and efficiency

    •    Consistency and routine

    •    Confidence and independence

    •    Building habits that support long-term involvement in the sport

Attention to Detail

Development is built on small details applied consistently.

Focus areas:

    •    Body position and alignment

    •    Streamline and push-offs

    •    Stroke timing and coordination

    •    Breathing rhythm

    •    Efficient movement

We reinforce this through simple cues used in every session, including "Set • Drop • Lock • Push" is our mantra for every push off, helping build control, alignment and good habits.

Club Fitness Squads

Club Fitness 1 (11–13/14)

A starting point for swimmers moving on from lessons or returning to the pool.

Focus:

    •    Stroke development

    •    Basic fitness

    •    Confidence in the water

    •    Routine

Club Fitness 2 (13+)

For swimmers ready to build stronger fitness and consistency.

Focus:

    •    Aerobic fitness

    •    Stroke efficiency

    •    Training habits

    •    Personal challenge

What Swimmers Gain

Swimmers build fitness, confidence, technical control and consistent habits that support long-term involvement in the sport.

They also benefit from the club environment, building friendships, developing commitment and enjoying training as part of a group.

Flexibility Within the Club

Swimmers’ goals can change over time.

Some choose to switch into the competitive pathway through Age Group Competitive, while others move towards a more fitness-focused approach.

Who This Pathway Is For

Swimmers who:

    •    Have finished lessons

    •    Want to stay active

    •    Enjoy swimming without competing

    •    Want to balance swimming with other sports or school commitments
