RECORD-BREAKING WEEK FOR BLUEFINS AT ENGLISH CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025

Updated: 5 days ago

What an incredible week it’s been for Basingstoke Bluefins Swimming Club at the English Championships. Across six action-packed days, our swimmers delivered outstanding performances — from club records and medal-winning swims to multiple finals and personal bests. Every race was a showcase of determination, skill, and team spirit, making this one of our most successful national meets yet.

From our youngest qualifiers to seasoned competitors, the team rose to the occasion and left their mark on the national stage. Highlights included championship wins, podium finishes, and multiple top-10 placings, all of which underline the strength and depth of our club. Yet beyond the medals, it was the consistency, resilience, and sheer determination shown across the squad that truly stood out.

From Finals to Medals — Bluefins Excel at English Champs in Sheffield

Special mention goes to our medal winners, who brought home a fantastic haul from the Championships. Piaras led the way with double gold in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke (both in club record times) and a strong swim in the 200m Breaststroke. Daniel C claimed a superb silver in the 100m Freestyle (club record) and reached finals in the 200m, 400m, and 800m Freestyle, finishing inside the top 10 in each. Tom added to the tally with a brilliant silver in the 100m Butterfly (club record) and a close 5th in the 200m Butterfly.

Across the team, there were a host of impressive top-10 finishes: Rhys placed 9th in the 400m Freestyle and 6th in the 800m Freestyle (club record), Oli P was 4th in the 50m Backstroke and competed strongly in the 100m Backstroke, while Jody secured 10th in the 400m IM and 200m Backstroke. Will made finals in all three of his breaststroke events, with 7th in the 50m, 6th in the 100m, and 9th in the 200m. Rebecca took 9th in both the 800m and 1500m Freestyle, while Clara, Freya, Cameron, Ethan, Ted, and Lizzie all contributed with strong swims and invaluable team presence on the national stage.
