You can talk to a parent, carer, coach or Team Manager about your period. Choose someone you feel comfortable speaking to.

You do not need a perfect explanation. You could say, “I’ve started my period and I need some help,” or, “I have cramps and this part of the session feels uncomfortable.”

If speaking feels awkward, ask your parent or carer to help you start the conversation. A trusted friend can come with you while you ask an adult for help.

Your coach can discuss the session with you. A Team Manager can help with practical needs during a meet. Your parent or carer can help you choose period products and arrange medical advice if needed.

At Bluefins, a small box of period products is available in the office if you are caught without what you need. Ask a coach or Team Manager.

You can ask to talk without your teammates listening. You do not need to announce your period to the squad.

If someone makes unkind comments or does not respect your privacy, tell an adult you trust or ask for help from the Club Welfare Officer.

Ask a parent or carer: Can you help me choose someone at swimming I would feel comfortable asking for period support?
