Each Bluefins squad has its own training aims. Your coach looks for the squad that best matches what you need right now.
Bluefins coaches watch swimmers during regular training and competitions. They look at several things, including:
your technique and skills across all four strokes
how you manage the pace, distance and skills in each session
how well you listen, follow instructions and train with others
how regularly you train and what you are working towards
Race times can help, but they are only one part of the decision.
The right squad should challenge you enough to improve while giving you the chance to understand the sessions, practise your skills and build confidence.
Age can help guide the decision, but it does not decide your squad on its own. Two swimmers can be the same age but need different things from their training.
A squad name does not tell you how good a swimmer you are. Your squad is the training group that coaches believe best matches what you need right now.
Ask your coach: What should I work on in my current squad?
