At Bluefins, we know that great swimming comes from mastering the small details — but we also know that learning should be fun. This week our Junior swimmers took part in a fantastic skills session that combined serious backstroke technique work with a playful twist: rubber ducks!
🔑 Skills Focus
The session was all about improving backstroke rotation and balance, with swimmers challenged to refine:
Body rotation — holding a strong, controlled position through each stroke.
Balance drills — using props to feel stability in side rotation.
Coordination — adding arm movement while staying aligned.
Focus under pressure — keeping technique sharp while balancing a duck in motion!
🦆 Duck Challenge
The ducks came out to test our swimmers’ skills in style:
Duck balanced on the shoulder during rotation.
Progressed to head + shoulder.
Then head + hand while adding in arm movement.
All of this while keeping body position strong and balanced in the water.
What started as a technical challenge quickly turned into a playful competition — with laughter, focus, and plenty of determination to keep those ducks afloat!
💙 Learning Through Fun
By adding this light-hearted challenge, our swimmers not only honed their backstroke rotation, balance, and body control, but also learned that training can be both hard work and highly enjoyable.
Moments like this show that developing great skills doesn’t always mean swimming endless lengths — sometimes the best progress is made when swimmers are smiling, experimenting, and pushing their abilities in creative ways.
