Lead Swimming Teacher

Basingstoke Bluefins are passionate about teaching children to swim in our local community. We believe it is important to encourage to develop water confidence, water skills and improve their swimming techniques. As we continue to grow our learn to swim programme, we are looking for a Swim England/STA Level 2 qualified Lead Swimming Teacher to join our friendly and talented team.

You will responsible for delivering our first-class swimming programme and have a team of teachers and water helpers working under your guidance. You will need to have a passion for swimming and teaching ensuring excellent customer service is being delivered at all times.

Requirements

  • To deliver the Swim England Learn to Swim programme up to stage 9 to children aged 3years - 12years old.

  • To communicate with the children’s parents/guardians concerning their development, and advise on their progression through the programme

  • To assist in the supervision of our members in the swimming pool and surrounds, ensuring their safety and discipline

  • Be able to demonstrate leadership skills, to assist the CPD trainer in the provision of on-the-job training and mentoring

  • Exhibit excellent communication skills with a genuine desire to work closely with our members and swim teachers.

  • Have a high level of professionalism and integrity, enthusiasm and motivation.

  • Hold the relevant Swim England/STA Level 2 Swimming teaching qualification.

  • Be flexible with your hours

  • A current lifesaving certificate would be preferable but not essential for this role as training can be provided

  • DBS check

 

Rate: £17 per hour

Location: Cranbourne School pool, Basingstoke

Hours available: Friday 6.00 pm – 7.00 pm and Sunday 9.00 am – 12.00 pm with occasional cover work available (Queen Mary's College pool).

 
Management Committee Roles - Volunteers
Club Secretary

We are looking for a highly organised individual to take on the volunteer role of Club Secretary. 

What can you expect to be doing?

  • Taking and distributing meeting minutes

  • Identifying and circulating information

  • Arranging the AGM 

  • Providing admin support to the Trustees 

We’re looking for someone with

  • Strong administration skills

  • Good communication and organisational skills

  • The ability to use own initiative 

  • Willingness to be part of a team

  • IT skills 

 

Some flexibility is required as meetings can be held during the day or evenings.

 

Time commitment: 3-4 hours per month, plus attendance at four committee meetings per year.

Vice Chair

To add to the effective governance of the executive board, we are keen to recruit a vice-chair to act as a deputy for the chair and to take on the chair’s role when the chair is absent. The vice-chair is the ‘chair in waiting’ or ‘chair designate’ and will take over the chair’s role in the future therefore the applicant should be prepared to accept the role for a minimum of 3 years.

 

Time commitment: upto 10 hours per week, plus attendance at four board meetings per year

Committee Members

We are looking for new committee members to bring new ideas and to contribute to the smooth running of the club. Currently we have a board of five members and we are looking to grow and diversify alongside recruiting a new Secretary and Vice Chair. 

This is an exciting time for Bluefins as we look forward to developing our new strategy to take us through to 2023. 

We are interested in hearing from people who may not have been a committee member before, but who has everyday experience in one of the following areas: governance, organisational management, fundraising, influencing strategy, financial management and risk management.

 

Knowledge of swimming is not essential in this role.

Positions available are: Officials Coordinator, Meet Manager, Gala Secretary, Events Coordinator, Development Officer and Records/Trophies Coordinator.

 

Time commitment: upto 5 hours per month, plus attendance at four board meetings per year. Some flexibility is required to accommodate project based work.
