Masters Hampshire County Championship  2019

26 Bluefins Masters swam at the Hampshire County Champs (22/23 June) at Portsmouth.

A brilliant result for the team, winning Top Club and County Champions!

Spencer Turner also took Top Male and Fleur Turner was 2nd in Top Woman.

We had swimmers from our squad that had never raced before all the way through to those that compete regularly. It was a huge team effort by everyone that swam. We saw so many PBs, some outstanding racing but more importantly everyone had a great afternoon, supporting each other and having the best time.

Well done to all swimmers

As always it set out to be a great weekend for the ‘Fins’ who inside and outside the pool had a great time away.

Fleur Turner picked up GOLD in the 50 Free, BRONZE in the 200 Free (In a PB) and joined forces with Keone, Emily and Sammy to win GOLD in the 4x50 Freestyle Relay, SILVERs in both 4x50 Medley and 4x 100 Freestyle relays.

Fleur and Sammy also swam in the Mixed relays with Spencer and Olly, winning SILVERs in both 4x50 Free and 4x 50 Medley relays.

Neil swam great races and his fastest times in 2 years, also racked up nearly 10’000 training meters over the weekend in the warm up pool! Keone swam a great 50 Fly and some excellent splits in all the relays.

This weekend sees a great turnout from Bluefins Masters to swim in the Hampshire County Championships where we are hoping to bring the trophy back! Watch this space

Swim England Masters National Championships 2018

26th – 28th August saw the Swim England Masters National Championships take place at the fantastic Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield.

The team of Olly Espinasse, Ciaran Kelly, Keone Crockwell, Rubens King, Duncan Bond, John Slater, Sam Irvine, Emily Budynzki-Seymour, Natalie McNamara, Neil Mitchell, Spencer Turner and Fleur Parker travelled North for the main event on the Masters calendar. Zoe Sadler dressed in White was a fantastic Official for the weekend, although after being drenched in the Men’s 50 free decided not to bring her trainers home! Also in attendance was Mark Straw who this time around competed for Bracknell and Tony Scott, Clare Kelly and Catherine Shearn who were fantastic supporters.

Kicking off the weekend was Ciaran Kelly in the 1500 Freestyle, he swam brilliantly to a PB and respectable 4th place. He later went on to set further best times of the weekend, competing in the 100, 200 and 400 Freestyle, 100 IM and 50 Butterfly. Next up was the start of the sprint races with 50 Breaststroke which saw Spencer Turner and Fleur Parker set lifetime PBs with 5th place for Spencer and a SILVER for Fleur. The Mens 72+ team of Sam, Rubens, Duncan and John blew the rest of the field away with a GOLD in the 4x50 Free Relay with some seriously fast splits!

Friday Evening was the 100 Freestyle with many Bluefins in action. National Titles and GOLD Medals for John, Spencer and Fleur and PBs for Duncan and Keone. Duncan went on to swim a further 2 PBs in the 50 Fly and 50 Free, whilst Keone swam like a demon with more fast times in the 200 Free, 50 Fly and 50 Free, all times far quicker than recently and back in action following injury earlier this year. John continued with further successes and a GOLD in the 50 Free and SILVER in the 50 Fly. Spencer went on to set more lifetime PBS and picked up GOLD in the 200 Free and SILVERs in the 100 IM and 50 Free. Fleur followed up with more PBs and GOLDs in the 50 and 200 Free, SILVERS in the 50 Breast and 100 IM. John, Sam, Keone and Fleur joined forces in the 72 Mixed Medley relay to win SILVER.

Olly opened Saturday morning with a GOLD In the 100 IM followed by fast swims in the 50 & 100 Fly and 50 Free. Neil Mitchell was in action having not raced much this year and came incredibly close to his PBs in the 100 IM, 50 Back, 50 Fly and went one better and set a Lifetime PB in the 50 Free (with new race shorts!).

Emily opened her weekend with a relay swim of Keone, Natalie and Fleur where she set a PB on the 50 Breast. She then went on to record PBs in the 100 Breast and 50 Free and just outside on the 200 Breast. Natalie swam her first 100 free since she was 13 when the ladies swam together again in the 72+ 4x100 Free Relay and also recorded good swims for the 50 Fly, 50 back and 50 Free races.

The highlight of the weekend has to go to our newest Masters member – Rubens King who won all 3 individual races for the 400 IM, 400 Free and 200 Breast. However it was the 400 Free that bought enjoyment to his team mates as he lost count on length 16 and went on to swim 450m (Still touching with his feet on the wall in a 4:10 to win GOLD).

As with all Masters events, a fantastic time was had by all, many laughs, fast swimming and a great team atmosphere that absolutely contributes to the amazing success of the team.
