Learn to Swim

Bluefins operate a very successful ‘Learn to Swim’ programme during term time for children aged 3 and above. It provides a fantastic opportunity for children to develop water confidence and basic swimming skills in a fun, yet structured way. Our teaching programme follows the Swim England (ASA’s) National Plan for Teaching Swimming and is sponsored by Southern Water.

Sue Lambert manages the lessons programme with a team of experienced teachers and water helpers. They are also assisted by some of our senior competition swimmers who have been with the club for many years, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience with them. The team works together to create exciting and engaging lessons programme where learning to swim is fun!

The staged teaching programme has 8 groups.  Each group has its own targets and associated awards for children, which are achieved before moving onto the next level.

Beginner groups are small, so that early skills can be learnt quickly with plenty of feedback. Throughout the lessons programme, teachers emphasise the importance of the basic skills. At the end of each term, children are assessed on their ability and if they have achieved their targets, they are moved up to the next level. Bluefins Swimming Club reward achievement through the Swim England (ASA) awards scheme.

Lessons run everyday from 4.30pm at Cranbourne School and on a Thursday at QMC.
Please note: We do not run swimming lessons at Basingstoke Aquadrome
We do not have the facility to offer Adult swimming lessons.
